Homes With Solar Sell Faster, Worth More (Something We Knew All Along)

By Matthew Wheeland - October 27, 2010

Not too long ago, the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) came up with study that found solar homes sold 20 percent faster and for 17 percent more money than equivalent non-solar homes across several California subdivisions. This finding is right in line with our own, found here in this video on how solar increases the value of your home.

In the NREL study, a San Diego developer put solar panels and solar thermal systems on half the homes in a development and all 257 sold within one year, two years faster than expected. These new houses were priced in the $380,000 to $500,000 range, but sold for as much as $600,000.

The study (PDF) was recently reported on by the great folks over at Clean Technica
